[Football] Duhawks name half of 2012 captain list

Seniors-to-be Sam Ross (Epworth, Iowa) and Brandon Ronan (Waukon, Iowa) represent half of the 2012 Loras College football captains following the recent spring football season. The team voted at the conclusion of the recent practice sessions to award the duo with the captainship. The duo was nearly a unanimous decision.

The Loras College women's track and field team finished in third place at this year's Iowa Conference Championships hosted by the University of Dubuque on Saturday following a pair of individual championships and eight All-IIAC performances. Loras' 114.5 points was 14.5 points more than in 2011, when the Duhawks finished in fifth.

The Loras College men's track and field team finished in third place at this year's Iowa Conference Championships hosted by the University of Dubuque on Saturday following a trio of individual championships and ten All-IIAC performances. Loras' 116 points was 22 points more than in 2011, when the Duhawks finished in fourth.

The Loras College baseball team wrapped up their 2012 baseball season at Petrakis Park last weekend and took all three games over the Cornell Rams in doing so. The team outscored Cornell 17-2 over the course of the series, earning two shutouts and finishing with 20+ wins for the tenth time under head coach Carl Tebon. The teams adapted the schedule slightly to avoid any inclement weather that might make its way through Dubuque by playing two games on Friday and one on Saturday.

The Loras College women's track and field team finished in second place out of nine teams on Saturday at the Monmouth Fighting Scots meet. The Duhawks logged a total of 98 team points.

The men's track and field team finished in third place out of twelve teams overall this past Saturday. The Duhawks logged a total of 75.5 points.

[Men's Golf] Herrmann wins 2012 IIAC Tournament

The Loras College men's golf team was seventh at the 2012 IIAC Championship after four rounds of action over the last two weekends. The tournament began at Bos Landen Golf Club in Pella, Iowa and concluded at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa on Saturday. When it was all said and done, Sam Herrmann was atop the leaderboard and three strokes ahead of the runner up.

[Softball] Duhawks go 0-2 at IIAC Tournament

The Loras College softball team was ousted from the double elimination IIAC Softball Tournament on Friday after being shut out by Simpson College. On Thursday, in the tournament opener, the Duhawks held a brief 2-1 lead over Coe before falling in extra innings, 3-2.

[Men's Golf] Herrmann tied for lead at halfway point of 2012 IIAC Championship

Loras College junior Sam Herrmann and the rest of the field at the 2012 Iowa Conference Championships battled tough conditions last Friday to open the tournament. No golfers cracked 80 in Round 1 at Bos Landen in Pella, Iowa. In Round 2, Herrmann used three birdies to post a +1 and finish in a tie for first place. The Duhawks are in seventh place after two rounds.

The Loras College men's track and field team posted two wins at their annual Open on Saturday. Sam Ross was the winner in the Shot Put with a final effort of 47'-4.25". Michael Meersman was tops in the Javelin Throw with a 150'-7" effort. The win also came in his final toss and helped him to an impressive win of over 17 feet.

The Loras College baseball team went 1-2 in their weekend series with the Buena Vista Beavers – which was altered due to the rain in the state over the weekend. Saturday's nine inning game included a late rally by the Beavers and Sunday's doubleheader had each team cracking the win column once. All three games were decided by one run.

In the final weekend of the regular season, the Duhawks traveled to Pella, Iowa to take on the Central Dutch. With rain moving two other key matchups in the race for the 2012 IIAC Tournament to Sunday, the Duhawks were focused on doing their part to reach the tournament.

The Loras College softball team split a key doubleheader with IIAC foe Dubuque on Tuesday and after a shuffling of the schedule headed to Grinnell, Iowa on Wednesday for their third and fourth games in two days. The Duhawks emerged 3-1 from the busy forty-eight hour stretch and have their regular season finale at Central in their sights for Saturday.
