Bob Schultz returned to Loras in 2005 to serve as the head men's and women's cross country and track and field coach. Schultz was previously an assistant at Loras from 1991-1994, and earned his master's degree in physical education/athletic administration from the college in 1994.

Coach Schultz recently completed his fifth season as the Duhawks' cross country coach. The men's team finished as IIAC runner-up and was the top IIAC team at the NCAA Central Region. Loras' men were also the most improved team in the region, moving from thirteenth to fifth in one year. They provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships as a team and finished the season ranked 37th in the country. On the women's side, Loras finished sixth in the Central Region, just two points from fifth, and in doing so finished ahead of two nationally ranked teams. The women also finished the season with a national ranking, coming in at 34th. Individually, Mary Bridget Corken was the Iowa Conference Champion and went on to earn All-American honors with a 16th place finish at the NCAA Division III Championships. Her finish was the highest ever for a Duhawk woman in the national meet.

In track & field, the Loras men were the  Iowa Conference runner-up and finished eighth at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.  Loras had both male and female NCAA Central Region Athletes of the Year in Kyle Calvert and Liz Ulferts during the 2008 year.

Loras is Schultz's third different head coaching stop. He comes to Dubuque from Lewis University in the suburbs of Chicago. Schultz spent three years coaching at Lewis, where he held the same position he holds at Loras. Combined between both teams, Schultz guided the Flyers to four Great Lakes Valley Conference titles in track and field and two in cross country.

Schultz has also previously served as the Head Coach at Elmhurst College, an NCAA Division III school in his hometown of Elmhurst, Illinois. He headed the cross country programs for eight years (1994-2001) and the track and field programs for six seasons.

Schultz graduated from Lewis University in 1991 after a successful career as an athlete. He ran in high school for nationally known York High School in Elmhurst, Ill. He, and his wife, Jennifer, are the proud parents of two sons, Joey and Justin. They reside in Dubuque.
