Greg Gorton is beginning his seventh year at Loras College. Over the last five years Loras owns both the best overall and conference record among Iowa Conference schools. This includes the conference championship in 2006-2007 and the IIAC Tournament Championship in the 2007-2008 season. The team has represented the Iowa Conference in the NCAA III Tournament two of the past three seasons.
Last year, the team had a 16-11 overall record and a 10-6 conference record. The team also spent its second season in the brand new Athletics & Wellness Center which is considered one of the top basketball arenas and weight training facilities in the Midwest. In addition to his basketball duties, Greg was the athletic division's academic liaison, serving over 550 campus student-athletes. Coach Gorton adds, "As a student-athlete, if you are interested in competing on a national scale in basketball, utilizing the best facilities, and can balance that with a desire to achieve great things in the classroom...there is not a better school like ours in the country."
Gorton came to Loras College from the University of St. Thomas (Minn.), where he played for and coached with Steve Fritz.  The Tommies are a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference power, and during Gorton's eight years as a member of the coaching staff, St. Thomas posted a 155-58 overall record and a 121-39 league mark, with four MIAC titles.
The Staples, Minn. native graduated from St. Thomas in 1991 with a degree in mathematics.  Greg and his wife, Kris, have three daughters, Kate (8), Isabelle (4), and Emily (1).

ASSISTANT COACH BRIAN CENTELLA

Brian enters his first season as a member of the Loras Basketball staff. In his career at Loras, Brian finished 16th on the all-time scoring list with 1,210 points and is 8th all-time in assists with 275. Centella was a first team Iowa Conference selection in his senior season in which he had a team leading 16.3 points per game, 2.7 assists per game, and shot 76% from the free throw line. Brian was also a second team Iowa Conference selection after his junior season.

 

Brian is pursuing a Physical Education degree with a minor in Health. He currently is student teaching at Roosevelt Middle School in Dubuque. The son of David and Patti Centella, he has two siblings Jimmy and Colleen. A graduate of Grayslake High School (IL) he was all-conference, all-area and MVP in both football and basketball.

ASSISTANT COACH RYAN KANE

Ryan enters his second season with the men's basketball squad. Kane has been a player and coach at the NCAA Division III level for 10 years. Prior to arriving at Loras he was a member of the Lawrence University staff in Appleton, Wisconsin where they advanced to the National Tournament in 2008. He also spent four seasons (2003-2007) as assistant at Dominican University (IL) and one season as Head Freshman boys coach at Ashwaubenon High School (WI).
 
A Green Bay, Wisconsin native, Kane played basketball and golf with the St. Norbert College Green Knights in DePere, Wisconsin. While there he earned three letters in basketball and four in golf. His academic work there concluded with a degree in Communications. He has since completed his Masters of Sports Administration from Valparaiso University (IN).
 
Kane will be working primarily on defensive schemes and perimeter skill development as well as recruiting coordinator. In addition, Kane serves as an instructor in the Physical Education department.

ASSISTANT COACH KASEY SCHMITT
Kasey enters his fifth season as a member of the Loras staff and first on the Varsity. For the past four seasons Kasey has served as the head Junior Varsity coach while assisting Varsity on game days. Prior to arriving at Loras, he was a member of the Dubuque Senior High School staff and Director of the Iowa Magic AAU program.
 
Schmitt was born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa and played his collegiate basketball at Clarke College. Currently he is the Assistant Superintendent of Greens at the Dubuque Golf and Country Club working towards a B.S. in Turgrass Management at Penn State University.
 
Kasey resides in Dubuque with his wife Alicia.
 
 
Matt Seaquist Image
Matt Seaquist - Assistant Coach
ASSISTANT COACH MATT SEAQUIST

Matt enters his first season as a member of the Loras Basketball Staff. In his career at Loras, Matt saw action in 89 games. He started 19 of 27 games for the Duhawks while averaging over 25 minutes per game in his senior season. On the season, Matt shot 51.5% from the field and 48.9% from behind the arc while averaging 5.7 points per game.  

 

Matt is pursuing a Secondary Education degree with an endorsement in Instructional Straightest for grades 7-12 and World History. He is currently student teaching at Southwestern High School (WI). Son of Bill and Judy Seaquist. A graduate of Brother Rice High School (IL) was a 2-time All Catholic League selection.
