Coach Schultz recently completed his sixth season as the Duhawks' cross country coach. The men's team finished as IIAC runner-up for the second year in a row and finished in seventh place in the Central Region. Dan McDermott competed in the NCAA Division III Championships and finished roughly in the top half of the field. On the women's side, Loras finished fourth in the IIAC in 2010 and tenth in the Central Region. In 2009, the Duhawks finished sixth in the Central Region, just two points from fifth, and in doing so finished ahead of two nationally ranked teams. The women also finished the season with a national ranking, coming in at 34th. Individually, Mary Bridget Corken was the Iowa Conference Champion and went on to earn All-American honors with a 16th place finish at the NCAA Division III Championships. Her finish was the highest ever for a Duhawk woman in the national meet.

In track & field, the Loras men finished the 2011 indoor season at fourth in the Iowa Conference and matched that fourth place effort in the outdoor season. The Duhawk women finished fourth during the indoor season and fifth in the outdoor season.

Schultz has received a wide array of accomplishments during his time at Loras, including the IIAC and NCAA Central Region Coach of the Year for 2007 in men's indoor track and field. He led the men to the IIAC indoor championship in 2007 and the IIAC outdoor championship in 2005, including two top ten NCAA Indoor & Outdoor finishes at the Men's Championships. Schultz also led the women to a 5th place finish in 2007 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Coach Schultz has coached a combined 59 All Americans in men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field at Loras, including three NCAA Division III Champions.

Loras is Schultz's third different head coaching stop. He comes to Dubuque from Lewis University in the suburbs of Chicago. Schultz spent three years coaching at Lewis, where he held the same position he holds at Loras. Combined between both teams, Schultz guided the Flyers to four Great Lakes Valley Conference titles in track and field and two in cross country.

Schultz has also previously served as the Head Coach at Elmhurst College, an NCAA Division III school in his hometown of Elmhurst, Illinois. He headed the cross country programs for eight years (1994-2001) and the track and field programs for six seasons.

Schultz graduated from Lewis University in 1991 after a successful career as an athlete. He ran in high school for nationally known York High School in Elmhurst, Ill. He, and his wife, Jennifer, are the proud parents of two sons, Joey and Justin. They reside in Dubuque.
