Former Loras College soccer standout, Dan Rothert has been at the helm of the Duhawk men's and women's soccer programs since 1998. In 15 easons, Rothert's teams are regarded as some of the best in the country. This past season, both the men and women won the IIAC regular season and tournament championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament where the men advanced to the national semifinal and the women to the "Sweet 16". The men's team finished 23-2-1 and with a final national ranking of #2; while the women finished 19-5 and a final national ranking of #14. His men's teams have won the Iowa Conference Championship seven times and advanced to the NCAA tournament 8 consecutive seasons where they have had very successful runs at the national level-advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2005, 2009 and 2010 and the Final Four in 2007, 2008 and 2012. The women's teams have won the Iowa Conference 8 times and the IIAC Tournament 10 times with 10 NCAA appearances which were highlighted by runs to the Sweet 16 in 2003, 2010 and 2012.
Rothert was named IIAC Coach of the Year for both the men and women in 2012, has been awarded this honor 13total times in his 15-year career and has been named Regional Coach of the Year three times. Rothert has amassed an impressive career record of 466-163-38 overall (236-84-19 with the men and 230-79-19 with the women) while at Loras. His student-athletes have received many honors both on the field and in the classroom during their careers. Notably, he has mentored eight All Americans, four Academic All Americans and 10 Iowa Conference MVPs.
Rothert holds the highest soccer coaching licenses attainable. He has obtained the USSF "A" License, the NSCAA Premier Diploma, the NSCAA Goalkeeper National Diploma and US Soccer's National Youth License and is currently the chair of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Committee - a committee he has served on since 2010.
Prior to becoming the head coach at Loras, Rothert was the assistant women's soccer and assistant women's basketball coach at Plattsburgh State (NY) where the soccer team was the 1996 New York State Conference champion. Rothert served as the assistant coach at Loras in the 1997 season and was the head boy's soccer coach at Dubuque Senior High School from 1997-2000, earning "Coach of the Year" honors in 1997.
Rothert has both his undergraduate ('96) and master's ('99) degrees from Loras in Physical Education where he was a 4 year letterwinner. He and his wife Karen, a Loras graduate ('98) and former volleyball student-athlete for the Duhawks, reside in Dubuque with their two sons, Danny and Jack and daughter Kate.
