IIAC Release

On Thursday, the Iowa Conference released their 2013 All-IIAC baseball teams. Four Duhawks made the cut – including three pitchers and an outfielder.

The first team selections, Will Petrosky and Jeremy Gerardy, made return appearances to the list. Petrosky, a sophomore, was on the second the second team a year ago and Gerardy, a junior, was honorable mention in 2012.

This year, Petrosky won four of his ten starts, tied for the team lead in innings pitched, and struck out a team high 53 opponents. He started seven IIAC games and went 4-3 with a 2.95 ERA, seventh in the league. He was also third in strikeouts. Most notably, he led the league in opponent's batting average against at a slim .206.

Gerardy put his name in the Loras record book by logging six saves – tying the Loras single season record from a year ago (Spencer Radabaugh). He allowed just seven earned runs in 33.2 innings and struck out 24. He made 11 appearances in IIAC contests (where he logged all six saves, tied for IIAC lead in the category) and kept his ERA under 2.00 in both his IIAC-only and full season stats.

On the second team, senior Ben Cottrell made the first appearance of his career. He was right behind Petrosky for ERA in IIAC games in eighth with a 3.13. He allowed just 13 earned runs this year in 56.1 innings of work. He ranked in the top ten in strikeouts in IIAC games.

Mark Jablonski also made the second team this year. He was third on the Loras roster in batting average and hit .284 in IIAC games. He tied for the league lead in stolen bases (10, in 11 tries). He was also error-free in 54 outfield chances in his 26 IIAC games. He scored 15 runs in league games and 21 in all games.

Loras finished 2013 in sixth in the IIAC standings (19-21 overall, 11-15 in IIAC) and won their opening round game of the 2013 IIAC tournament. Their 3.13 ERA in 40 games was tops in the Iowa Conference.
