Duhawks finish fourth at IIAC Championships

The Loras College women's track and field team finished in fourth place at this year's Iowa Conference Outdoor Championships inside the Rock Bowl with 86 points. Loras' performances were highlighted by two conference titles and two more All-Iowa Conference efforts. 


Katie Langmeier defended her 2012 High Jump title and Rachel Kolbeck did the same in the Pole Vault.


Langmeier completed her first four jumps on her way to the winning height of 1.68 meters (5'-6"). Her first two attempts came up short but her third leap was the winner. She tried to climb up one more height to1.70 but settled for the win at 1.68. Caitlin Groeper joined her on the podium with a third place 1.58 meters (5'-2.25"). Groeper cleared four of her first five attempts before reaching the 1.63 height.


Rachel Kolbeck (video below) was a full six inches ahead of her closest opponent in defense of her Pole Vault title. She completed three of her first four jumps on her way to clearing the winning 3.21 meter. She went up one more height but came up empty at 3.36 meters.


Loras' other All-Conference performance came in the Javelin Throw. Kirsten Schultz was runner-up with her throw of 117'-7" on her first toss of the day. It held up until the final throw from the winner from Central, which was just eight inches further.


Loras will now spend the week trying to qualify a handful of athletes for nationals at last chance meets in Lacrosse, Wisconsin, Rock Island, Illinois, and Naperville, Illinois.
