2013 All-Iowa Conference Team

On Tuesday night, the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced their All-IIAC softball team. Two Duhawks, Kellie Klein and Katie Serpico, made the cut.

Both Klein and Serpico made the second team. For sophomore DP/C Katie Serpico, 2013 marks her first appearance on the All-IIAC teams. Senior P/1B Kellie Klein is making her third appearance on the second team after jumping up to the first team a year ago in 2012.

Offensively, Serpico led the Duhawks with a .355 batting average (.362 in IIAC games) while Klein hit .295 (.286 in IIAC games). Klein led the team with 23 RBI and 53 total bases. Serpico had a team high .417 on base percentage and was second on the behind Klein with 18 RBI. Additionally, among only Iowa Conference games, Serpico ranked in the top ten in total hits.

Klein's spot on the team was once again based on her multiple roles with Loras in her utility role. She three over 112 innings on the mound this year, striking out 68 and allowing 54 earned runs for a 3.36 ERA. She was the pitcher of record 18 of Loras' 31 games, going 7-11. In IIAC games, she ranked fourth in innings pitched and was in the top ten in both ERA and opponent's batting average. She was also seventh in strikeouts.

Klein's 24 career homeruns puts her first on Loras' all-time list. She hit eight this season to lead the team in that category and helped the 2013 team set the single season mark for homeruns (also 24) this year.

Loras finished 2013 with an overall record of 12-19.
