Duhawks split at Central, Simpson

The Loras College men's tennis team spent Saturday in Pella and Indianola battling the Dutch and the Storm, seeking their first win of 2013. The team split with the hosts, winning a thrilling match over the Storm to end the day.

 

In the first match against Central, Jon Moore won a tightly contested #1 singles match, 6-4 - 6-4 over Central's Kyle Freischlag.

 

The win came in the afternoon match with the Storm. The Duhawks won three singles matches and two doubles matches to claim victory. Jon Moore won again, this time 7-5 and 6-0 over Alex Hook. Ulises Hernandez added a win at #4 singles, 6-1 and 6-3.

 

Doubles wins came from the #1 and #3 slots. Moore teamed with Brian Falvey to win 8-3 at #1 doubles. Garrett Prusha and Jeff Kasel battled to an 8-5 win over Simpson's #3 doubles team.

 

Kasel also provided the heroics with the last match of the day at #5 singles. He won a tough first set 7-5 and trailed 5-1 in the second set before coming back to pressure Jeff Hadden. As the last match on the court on Saturday and with the match tied at 4-4, Kasel rattled off six straight wins to push himself and the Duhawks into the win column.

 

The Duhawks host their first home events of the spring this weekend, with Coe scheduled to be in Dubuque on Friday at 4:00 PM. On Saturday, the Duhawks will host Cornell and Knox.
