The Loras College Department of Athletics and Loras College Wrestling team will host the 2013 NCAA Division III Central Regional Championships at Five Flags Center in downtown Dubuque, Iowa on March 2. Loras College is one of six hosts around the country who will each send 30 wrestlers to the NCAA Division III National Championship March 15-16 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The Central Region includes each of the eight current Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools, recent IIAC member Cornell College (Midwest Conference), Rock Island, Illinois resident Augustana College (CCIW), and the Knox College Prairie Fire (Midwest Conference) from Galesburg, Illinois.
In addition to the right to earn a the title of "Regional Champion", a total of 110 wrestlers will challenge for the top three spots in each of the ten weight classes. Those top three spots will earn automatic spots in the March 15-16 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Unlike in years past, there will be no at-large process for entry. Qualification is limited to the top three finishers in each weight class at each of the six sites, totaling 180 wrestlers.
Among those competing at the Central Regional Championships are seven teams and 22 individuals currently ranked in the latest NWCA polls.
Doors will open at 8:00 am on Saturday, March 2. Matches will begin at 9:00 am and include five total sessions.
9:00 am – 30 first round matches
10:15 am – Championship Quarterfinals
1:00 pm – Consolation Rounds, Championship Semifinals
3:00 pm – Consolation Semifinals
5:00 pm – Championship, Third Place, and Fifth Place matches
Tickets are available at the Five Flags Center box office on the day of the event only. Prices for a full day's admission are $13 for adults and $11 for all students and seniors. Five Flags does accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover at their gates.
