Loras 5th/10 teams – RESULTS

The Loras College men's swimming team finished fifth at this year's Liberal Arts Championships in Cedar Rapids over the weekend, scoring 354 points.

The team was a part of the annual 10-team, three day grind in mid-February once again, this time heading to Coe College.

The three freestyle relay teams each finished in fifth place in their final swims, logging a hefty 84 points. Swimmers on those relays included Michael O'Toole, Grant Duncan, Tom Graziano, Zach Benson, and Matt Bogen.

John Maevski used the diving board(s) for his 31 points. The freshman from Elk Grove Village, Illinois was third in the 3-Meter competition and fourth in the 1-Meter version – narrowly missing out on the NCAA Division III qualifying mark in the 3-Meter portion.

Zack Benson and Matt Bogen also turned in solid weekends. Bogen was in the top five in both the 500 Freestyle (5th) and 1650 Freestyle (2nd), adding 31 points. Benson posted three top-five times: the 200 IM (3rd), the 100 Breaststroke (5th), and 200 Breaststroke (2nd). He accounted for 47 points, including flirting with Loras' record in the 200 IM.

The Duhawks were 50 points from fourth place in the team standings, and avoided sixth place by eight points from the Morningside team.

"We had a lot of outstanding swims," head coach Doug Colin said when the weekend was over. "It was a great finish to the season."
