Loras 2nd/12 teams – RESULTS

The Loras College women's swimming team finished second at this year's Liberal Arts Championships in Cedar Rapids over the weekend, scoring 449 points.

The team was a part of the annual 12-team, three day grind in mid-February once again, this time heading to Coe College. Loras scored many of their points in the relays, including the 400 Medley Relay and the 200 and 800 Freestyle Relay.

Loras' 400 Medley Relay and 800 Freestyle Relay teams each took second. Lexie Mollahan was on both – joined in the 400 Medley by Marguerite DelVecchio, Katie Callaghan, and Jillyn Gerken. She was with Elise Amo, Gabby Gaulke, and Heather Black for the 800 Freestyle event. Loras' 200 Freestyle Relay team added a fourth place. Black and Gerken joined Renee Beach and Stephanie Czarobski on that squad.

Individually, Katie Callaghan's performances in the butterfly events yielded 34 points. She posted a 1:00.53 in the 100-yard version and a 2:19.60 in the 200-yard version. Lexie Mollahan also swam in the finals in three events – the 200 IM, and the 100 and 200 Breaststroke – adding 35 team points.

The Duhawks were firmly in second place in the team standings, more than 60 points clear of third place and well off the pace needed for first.

"We had a lot of outstanding swims," head coach Doug Colin said when the weekend was over. "It was a great finish to the season."
