Loras, 62

Dubuque, 56

Melissa Herrmann pulled down a third of Loras' 47 rebounds and led the Duhawks with 16 points on the way to the win column on Wednesday night against the Spartans from the University of Dubuque.

Loras improved to 15-3 with the victory and are now 5-2 at the midway point of the Iowa Conference season and sit in second place in the standings. They won each of their three home games over the last five days.

The teams traded the lead three times with not team holding a lead larger than six points. Mollie Whiting scored 17 of her team's 30 first half points. Loras countered with nine players cracking the scoring column in the first half, led by Rachel Kerchefske's six points on her pair of three-pointers.

The halftime lead was gone quickly once the Duhawks returned to the floor. The Spartans didn't score in the first six minutes of the half, while the hosts went on an 11-0 run. Melissa Herrmann scored seven of those points, including an old-fashion three point play. Meggie Schmidt did her best to get the Spartans back in the game, knocking down a three-pointer (one of her three on the night) to make it 44-43 with 9:30 to go. Loras would push the lead to as many as ten points down the stretch, eventually taking a six point win.

Herrmann finish with 16 points and 15 rebounds on 7-of-14 shooting. She pulled down 10 defensive rebounds and five on the offensive end. She added an assists, a steal, and two blocks. Katie Langmeier also reached double figures, scoring 12 points and finishing one rebound shy of a double-double of her own. She added four steals.

Whiting and Schmidt finished with 42 of the Spartans' 56 points.

Loras will be in Waverly, Iowa on Saturday to take on the Knights at 2:00 PM. The teams are each 5-2 in the league standings.
