Wartburg, 32

Loras, 6

The Loras College wrestling team hosted #1 Wartburg on Tuesday night in their Iowa Conference battle with both teams sporting an unblemished record in their first five IIAC challenges. The visitors would prevail, 32-6.

Loras conceded 12 points in two bouts with just seconds of wrestling action, leaving the 125-pound slot open for a Gilberto Camacho forfeit. At 157-pounds Chris Lewis got tangled up with Kodie Silvestri and needed to default his matchup.

Of the remaining eight bouts, the Duhawks won two. Nick Steger won a 2-1 decision at 133-pounds after escaping quickly to start the second period and riding Landon Shea for 1:30 in the third to build a 2-0 lead. Shea escaped late in the third to make it 2-1. Joe Butler built a 3-2 lead heading into the third period against the Knights' Matt Vercillo. He then scored a late takedown and went on to win 7-2.

The Knights added four decisions and two major decisions to reach their 32 points. Among the most competitive in those bouts were the highest scoring match at 149-pounds. Greg Vance rallied late but fell short against Andrew Johnson, 10-8.

Then, at heavyweight, #5 ranked James Buss and #6 Ryan Frank of Wartburg squared off in the finale of the night. Frank struck first and then Buss, after escaping in the third period, was unable to find a takedown to overcome the 3-2 deficit.

Loras is at Luther this weekend for the Iowa Conference Duals.

The Duhawks will wrestle Coe (9-5, 3-1) at 9:00 am, Luther (6-6, 1-1) at 11:00 am, and Simpson (1-9, 0-3) at 1:00 pm.
