Loras, 72

Wartburg, 64

The Loras College men's basketball team fell behind with 11 minutes play on Monday night but dug in and prevailed over the Wartburg Knights, 72-64 for their sixth win of the season and first in league play.

The Duhawks led by as many as ten points in the first half as they put up 15-for-28 field goal shooting efforts in each half. The opening 20 minutes included two ties and three lead changes. Luke Barry scored a team high eight points in the first half, but the visitors held a 36-33 lead at the break.

In the second half, Loras held the visitors to 40% shooting and out-rebounded the Knights 22-11. Alex Cline scored all 10 of his points in the second half and pulled down six of his eight rebounds over those same 13 minutes of action. The Knights were within four points when Eddie Diemer fouled out with just under five minutes to play. The Duhawks used a long three-pointer from Connor Mooney as the shot clock expired on the next offensive possession, and he and Cline followed with baskets on the next two trips to extend the Loras lead to 67-56. The Duhawks kept Wartburg at a safe distance down the stretch to hold on for the win.

Ryan Coon was 6-for-9 off the bench for Loras to lead the way with 12 points. Rutan finished with 11. Bobby Harmening had five assists off the bench to go with his two steals.

Loras hosts the University of Dubuque (13-4, 3-3) on Wednesday night in the AWC. Tipoff is 8:00 PM and can be seen live on KCRG 9.2.
