Davis, Ruhser, Coleman win events in season opener at Dubuque

The Loras College track and field teams opened their 2013 seasons down the street at the University of Dubuque's Sol Butler Classic on Saturday. Loras earned three individual wins and were fourth as a team at the completion of the season opener. 


Newcomer Abby Davis claimed her first title as a Duhawk with a win in the 55 Meter Dash on Saturday, needing just 7.4 seconds to claim the win by :00.18 seconds. That time puts her on Loras' all-time top ten list in the event. She added a third place finish in the 200 Meter Dash in 27.29 seconds. Davis joined the third place 4x200 team as the lead runner alongside Donna Johnston, Brittnee Powers, and Alaina Rigdon.


Sophomore Emily Ruhser won the 55 Meter Hurdles in 9.07 seconds. She was :00.13 ahead of second place. Another sophomore, Chalea Coleman, won the Triple Jump with her second leap of 33'-8.75".


Other top finishes came from Rachel Kolbeck who finished second in the Pole Vault (10') and Caitlin Groeper, who was third in the High Jump with her 5'-1" on her fourth jump. Morgan Steere was fourth in both the Shot Put and the Weight Throw.


The Duhawks are at Monmouth College in Illinois on Saturday for the Midwest Invite.
