Goerdt wins 600 Meter Run, Derr wins 55 Hurdles at Dubuque

The Loras College track and field teams opened their 2013 seasons down the street at the University of Dubuque's Sol Butler Classic on Saturday. Loras earned two individual wins and were fourth as a team at the completion of the season opener. 


Headlining Loras' efforts on Saturday were Tim Derr and Josh Goerdt. Derr won the 55 Meter Hurdles as the only finalist under eight seconds. He posted the top preliminary time and followed up with a 7.99 effort in the finals, edging the second place runner by :00.06 seconds. Goerdt claimed victory in the 600 Meter Run, edging teammate Zach Frey with his 1:24.91 (Frey was done in 1:25.03).


Other top performances came from Sam Ross in the Shot Put, where the senior finished with a second place 45'-00.50" toss. Sophomore Jordan Burkholder wasn't far behind in third place with his 44'-7.5" effort.


Goerdt and Frey teamed with Kyle Ward and Zac Gassman for a third place effort in the 4x400 meter Relay (3:28.58).


The Duhawks are at Monmouth College in Illinois on Saturday for the Midwest Invite.
