Buena Vista, 71

The Loras women's basketball team improved to 1-1 in the Iowa Conference and 11-2 overall with their road win over Buena Vista on Wednesday night. Four starters reached double figures and Brit Kent joined them off the bench in the win.

Kent and Niki Rivera led Loras with 13 points each. Kent used the free throw line for seven of her 13 and Rivera went 5-for-10 from the field on the way to hers. Katie Langmeier added 12 points and seven rebounds, Katie Wheeler had 11, five rebounds, and three assists and Melissa Herrmann had 10 points and eight rebounds.

Loras opened a lead as large as 16 points in the first half, when Rivera (12) and Langmeier (11) scored the majority of their points, going 9-for-12 from the field. Herrmann went 3-for-3 from the field in the opening 20 minutes as the Duhawks opened a 43-37 halftime lead.

With 6:23 to go, the lead was up to 17 before the Beavers began to chip away. At 66-49, the Duhawks were comfortably in front. Loras scored just eight more points, while the hosts netted 21. Kelly Rogowski made the Duhawks' lone field goal down the stretch. A late attempt to tie the game by the Beavers' Brooke Wehle missed the mark, putting Loras in the win column for the first time in the Iowa Conference this season.

The Duhawks return to the AWC on Saturday for a 2:00 PM tipoff with the Coe Kohawks (9-4, 2-0).
