Buena Vista, 79

Loras, 74

The Buena Vista Beavers broke a 74-74 tie with a late three-pointer and went on to win on their home floor on Wednesday night, 79-74 with a pair of free throws.

After 20 minutes, the teams were tied at 42-42. Both teams shot over 50% from the field in the first half and the back-and-forth continued into the second half with seven more ties and five more lead changes. Loras led by as many as nine points early in the second half and the Beavers' largest lead came in the closing moments with their last free throw to put them up by five.

Connor Mooney knocked down eight shots and two three-pointers on his way to a game high 19 points. He added six assists and a steal on Wednesday night. Ryan Coon came off the bench to score 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting from the field.

Four Beavers scored in double figures and Troy Ticknor became the last with his long distance shot with 53 seconds to play to reach 11 points. Buena Vista was 10-for-24 for the night from three-point range with Ticknor and Nick Clark each going 3-for-6.

Loras turned the ball over just nine times. The teams each pulled down 37 rebounds. Loras won battles in the paint, points off the bench, second chance points, and points off turnovers, but the hosts were able to break the late tie and claim the victory.

Loras has their first Iowa Conference home game of the 2012-13 season when the Coe Kohawks (8-5, 1-1) come to the AWC for a 4:00 PM tipoff.
