Loras' Steger earns IIAC Male Athlete of the Week Award

BELOW ARE PORTIONS OF TODAY'S RELEASE FROM THE IOWA CONFERENCE

 

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Simpson College basketball player Kate Nielsen (Urbandale, Iowa / Johnston) and Loras College wrestler Nick Steger (Dyersville, Iowa / Western Dubuque) have been named IIAC Athletes of the Week for the period from December 28, 2012, to January 6, 2013. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in five winter sports.

 



 

Wrestling — Nick Steger, Loras College, Dyersville, Iowa / Western Dubuque
Steger, a freshman 133-pounder, posted four wins - three by fall in the first period - at the Knox College Chuck Porter Duals. He decisioned Chicago's Will Long, 4-1, then pinned Knox's Alejandro Vareha (2:12), Wabash's Robbie Carter (1:53) and Trine's Nick Ader (1:33). (IIAC Male Athlete of the Week)

Men's Swimming & Diving — Matt Bogen, Loras College, Rockford, Ill. / Harlem
Bogen, a sophomore, won two individual events and was scored first in a relay in a 120-81 dual loss at Luther. He won the 500 freestyle (5:06.82) by five seconds and the 1000 freestyle (10:35.49) by three seconds. In addition, he led off Loras' 400 freestyle relay (3:32.02) which scored first-place points but touched the wall second behind an exhibitioned Luther squad.
