Norse hold court in IIAC opener
Mon, Jan. 7, 2013 - [Women's Basketball]

Luther, 63

Loras, 54

The Loras College women's basketball team returned to the loss column on Saturday for just the second time in 2012-13 with a road loss to the Luther Norse.

The Duhawks had two players, Brit Kent and Niki Rivera, reach double figures in the loss but the team was outrebounded and shot 38.5% from the field and 59% from the free throw line.

A back-and-forth first half saw the teams trade the lead 10 times on the way to a 25-24 Loras halftime lead when Brittney Cato made a pair of free throws. The Norse pulled away in the middle portion of the second half, turning a 32-32 tie into a 47-37 lead with nine minutes to play.

Loras scrapped their way back within three points at 55-52 with 3:15 to play, but scored just three points down the stretch as the Norse took to the free throw line to lock up their win.

Loras fell to 10-2 and 0-1 to start IIAC play. They'll take the long trek to Storm Lake, Iowa to take on Buena Vista (7-5, 0-1) on Wednesday. The game will be streamed by BVU and can be found on Loras' GameCentral page HERE
