Norse win IIAC opener in Decorah
Mon, Jan. 7, 2013 - [Men's Basketball]

Luther, 64

Loras, 57

Both teams were an identical 21-for-51 from the field, but the Loras College men's basketball team fell to the Luther Norse in their IIAC opener in Decorah on Saturday. The Norse made two more long distance shots and converted five more free throws to claim the home victory.

Aaron Schueller led the way for the Duhawks with his 6-for-12 shooting to finish with 14 points. Jake Rutan and Luke Barry each finished with nine. Rutan added seven rebounds and Alex Cline finished with a team high eight boards. Nathaniel Smith and Connor Mooney had four and three assists to account for Loras' seven.

The Duhawks led by as many as seven points midway through the first half, but a late charge by the hosts had them in front at the break, 30-24.

In the second half, Loras was as close as 51-47, but the hosts held onto the lead by answering with three-point efforts on their next two baskets around the five minute mark.

As a result, the Duhawks begin the IIAC with an 0-1 record. On Wednesday, they'll travel to Storm Lake for their tilt with Buena Vista. The Beavers will provide a video stream of the game, which is available at Loras' portal page of GameCentral – HERE
