Duhawks knock off Knights in DePere, Wisconsin

The Loras women's basketball team improved to 10-1 with their New Year's Eve road win over St. Norbert College in DePere, Wisconsin. They took down the hosts by two points and as a result won a key game between teams who were receiving votes in the latest d3hoops.com poll. 

  

Katie Langmeier paced the Duhawks with her double-double, scoring 14 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end. Her final rebound of the night came off a Kelly Rogowski missed free throw with the Duhawks leading by one point and 10 seconds to play. She was fouled and split her free throws, making it 56-54.

 

The Knights pulled down Langmeier second free throw, called timeout, but missed their last-second attempt to tie the game, giving the Duhawks the victory.

 

The Duhawks trailed for much of the first half before ending the first session on a 12-0 run to take a four-point lead into the break. The second half included three ties and two lead changes, with Loras breaking a 47-47 tie with a Langmeier jump shot with 4:31 to play.

 

Melissa Herrmann and Brit Kent added two points each on a short 6-0 run that put them in front late. Kent finished with 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting and Herrmann had 10 points, six rebounds, and three more blocks.

 

Loras opens Iowa Conference competition on Saturday when they travel to Luther College (8-3) for a 2:00 PM tipoff with the Norse.
