Fri, Dec. 11, 2009 - [Men's Basketball]

The Loras College men's basketball team lost their Thursday night game to Wartburg College 86-71 in the AWC to move to 4-5 on the season. The Duhawks also moved to 1-2 in the Iowa Conference with the loss, and have three non-conference games on the slate before returning to league play after the calendar turns to 2010.

On Thursday, Tim Kelly and Mike Gleason combined to go 14-of-27 from the field (52%) and score 34 of Loras' points. Jason Abbuhl added nine points and Alex Brant eight for the Duhawks. Five players had at least four rebounds and point guard Connor Mooney had six assists to lead that category. Tyson Handsaker and Travis Guy each left the game with foot injuries for Loras, which led to more minutes from Garrett Schwarz and Jordan Harrelson.

The Knights shot over 50% for the game, going 31-for-60 over the 40 minutes, recorded 20 more rebounds, and made 21-of-22 free throws. The IIAC's leading scorer Kelly McCarville scored 26 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the visitors.

Loras concludes their three game home stand against Ashford on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 PM and can been seen on the Duhawk Broadcast Network.
