Loras, 59

Chicago, 56

Morgan Donovan helped the Chicago Maroons to a fast start but Katie Langmeier, Brit Kent, and Niki Rivera provided enough late to keep the Duhawks in the win column for the fourth straight time on Sunday. Loras, receiving votes in one of last week's national polls, defeated the Maroons 59-56 in the AWC to move to 8-1 in 2012-13.

In the first half, the visitors opened an early lead before the Duhawks and Maroons traded punches over the opening 20 minutes. The opening 20 minutes included six ties and four lead changes, with the largest lead reaching six points by the hosts.

Donovan scored 12 points in the first half and Lauren Byrne scored all nine of her points in that frame.

In the second half, Chicago chipped away at Loras' 32-27 halftime lead and held the lead for six minutes in the middle of the 20 minute session. Niki Rivera knocked down a 3-pointer with just over four minutes remaining to give Loras a 49-48 lead. The lead would change hands six more times over the final four minutes. The final lead claimed by Loras came after Kaitlin Phillips stole the ball from Donovan at the top of the key and started a fast break than ended with Katie Wheeler making a layup, drawing a foul, and knocking down the ensuing free throw to go ahead 56-54.

The Maroons were unable to get off a shot in the final 5.7 seconds after Brittney Cato knocked down both of her free throws to make it 59-56.

Loras is at Beloit College(1-7) this Wednesday, when they'll take on former assistant coach Jen (Randall) McCormick in Beloit, Wisconsin. Tipoff is 4:00 pm.
