The #28 Loras College wrestling team continued their rise in 2012-13 with a solid second place finish at the 2012 Dick Walker Invitational in Waverly, Iowa on Saturday.

The Duhawks put four wrestlers in top three spots, including nationally ranked James Buss' title at heavyweight. Buss, ranked #7 in the latest NWCA poll, needed three wins to claim his third tournament title of his freshman campaign. The Chicago, Illinois native posted a major decision win over Coe's Creighton Fox, a 3-0 decision over #3 seed Malcolm Allen of Iowa Central, and a 3-1 overtime upset of #1 Ryan Fank of host Wartburg in the championship match.

Evan Weaver, another freshman, seeded second at 141-pounds, went 3-1 and was runner-up in his bracket. He tallied a decision, major decision, and first period pin before dropping the title match to Wartburg's Tommy Mirocha. In the same 141-pound bracket, Greg Vance started with an upset of the #5 seed and pinned his next opponent before also falling to Mirocha and finishing fourth.

Nick Steger also finished in third place at 133-pounds. The third-seeded Steger pinned three opponents and lost a slim 1-0 decision to the eventual runner up. Two of the pins came in the first period, and one in the second.

At 197-pounds, Malcolm Watson rebounded from an opening round loss to the eventual champion to also finish in third. He used a pin, major decision, and 8-3 decision to claim his bronze.

After a break for finals, the Duhawks will be in Las Vegas for the Desert Duals (hosted by Wartburg College) on the 16th. The first three weeks are then packed with events, including their first home dual of the year against Central on January 10 and the ‘Flash' Flanagan Open on the 12th.
