Duhawks earn second straight win to start 2012-13 season

Loras, 81

Edgewood, 43

The Loras College women's basketball team closed out the weekend with a commanding victory over the Edgewood College Eagles.

The Duhawks had three scorers in double figures to set the pace for the offense.  Leading the way was freshman guard Kaitlin Phillips who lead all scorers with 15 points.  The freshman was 5-for-8 from the field including two three-point baskets.  Also making contributions in the scoring column were Melissa Herrmann and Katie Langmeier, who each scored 12 and 10 respectively.

Edgewood's top scorer, Emily Anderson, was held to nine points.

Not only was the stingy defense of Loras a major factor in the game, but Loras outrebounded the Eagles by an impressive 50-36 margin.  Cleaning up the glass most of the night for Loras was Rachel Drees who scraped 11 rebounds and Melissa Herrmann who grabbed 9. Herrmann's was just one short for earning a double-double.

Loras will hit the road for the first time to play Concordia-Illinois (River Forest) tomorrow night.  The game will tip off at 7:00 PM.
