After finding success in the first two weekends of their 2012 season, the Loras College Wrestling squad split up and headed out to two different events this past Saturday. Head Coach Randy Steward took his top group to DeKalb, Illinois to participate in a three team dual, including Northern Illinois, Purdue, and Calumet College of St. Joseph. The Duhawks knew that the day was not going to be easy, but hoped to gain some valuable experience that could be applied throughout the rest of the year.

In the first dual of the day, Loras squared up against Purdue, but dropped the match 50-0. Freshman James Buss had the closest match of the day, dropping a 2-0 decision to Alex White. Five Duhawks lost by pinfall, three by major decision, and one by technical fall.

The Duhawks moved on to faceoff against the Northern Illinois Huskies, another Division I wrestling program. Loras would not have much luck in this dual either, falling 41-0. Nick Steger and Buss fought hard to bring their matches within close distance, but ended up falling in the end. Steger lost his match 4-3 and Buss lost 5-2 in double overtime.

Over at the Concordia Open, the Duhawks would have more success, as Trent Lyons and Greg Vance would both finish with winning records on the day. Lyons would finish the day at 4-2 in the 149 pound division, with two forfeits, and two decisions of 8-1 and 4-2 scores. Vance, wrestling at 141 pounds, wrestled his way to a 3-2 mark, with an 18-2 technical fall, a 15-2 major fall, and one pin.

The wrestlers will take a break from competition until December 1st, when they will travel to LaCrosse, Wisconsin and participate in the Candlewood Suites Duals against UW-LaCrosse, UW-Stevens Point, and UW-Eau Claire.
