With their second Open in as many weeks, the Loras College Wrestling team is off to a great start in 2012. After only having one individual winner at the Loras Open last week, the Duhawks claimed three titles at the Luther Open in Decorah, Iowa.

Freshman James Buss kept his winning streak alive by going 5-0 in the 285 pound Silver Division, including three wins by pinfall. In the semi-final and championship match, Buss defeated two different Upper Iowa University Wrestlers by scores of 4-1 and 3-1 respectively. Sophomore Stephan Birt was the lone Elite Division winner for the Duhawks, winning at 174 pounds. On the day, Birt won his four matches by scores of 10-5, pinfall, 3-2, and 15-8. The win marks Birt's first on the year after not wrestling at the Loras Open.

Nick Steger was the last winner for the Duhawks on the day, wrestling in the Silver Division at 133 pounds. The freshman from Dyersville, Iowa won five matches en route to the title. His first, third and fourth matches ended by pinfall, while his second and fifth match ended in 5-1 and 9-2 decisions.

In the 197 pound Silver Division, freshman Malcolm Watson finished second after dropping the title match 1-0. In his opening matches, Watson won by pinfall and a 10-2 major decision.

The Duhawks will split their squad this weekend, sending some to the Concordia Open and the rest to the Northern Illinois University Duals.
