Duhawks drop home game to #15 Wheaton
Tue, Nov. 24, 2009 - [Men's Basketball]
The Loras College men's basketball team lost their second game of 2009-2010 on Tuesday night to #15 Wheaton College Thunder in the AWC, 82-60. The Thunder shot 59% from the field, including 12-of-17 by Ben Panner (29 points) en route to their third win of the season.

The Duhawks tallied points with every player who stepped on the floor, but none reached double figures for the home team. Alex Brant, Dan Pawelski, and Tim Kelly each had eight for Loras, who shot 45% from the field.

Turnovers and free throw attempts were mostly even, but Wheaton made 15-of-18 from the charity stripe and the Duhawks shot 7-of-14. The Thunder did most of their damage on the glass, winning the rebounding battle 32-25. They also blocked four shots.

The nine point halftime lead grew as high as 22, but was down to 12 with just over six minutes to go. Wheaton simply continued to shoot the ball well down the stretch, again extending the lead courtesy of 75% shooting in the second half (18-for24).

The Duhawks head to Whitewater, Wisconsin after the Thanksgiving holiday for weekend games with host UW-Whitewater and Aurora University. They will be back in Dubuque to open the Iowa Conference schedule on December 2, when they travel up the street to take on the University of Dubuque.
