The 23rd ranked Loras College women's soccer team claimed their third consecutive Iowa Conference title on Tueday night with a 3-1 victory over University of Dubuque, capping a 7-0 run through the Iowa Conference.
After much of the first 25 minutes were spent in the middle third of the field, Loras cracked the scoreboard first. A Duhawk cross was redirected into the Spartans' goal off a defender to give Loras a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute.
Loras would strike once more before the halftime intermission.
Hillary Wilson sent a corner kick to the back post where Rachel Rieger headed it back directly to the front of the Dubuque goal where Loisann DeLass was frozen. Unable to reach Rieger's header, she could only watch as Shelby Perkins – who setup in front of DeLass to begin the corner kick, redirected it into the goal.
The 2-0 lead would last for 20 minutes into the second half. Taryn Petersen returned from injury this week to find the score sheet for the second time in her career. Kristina Everding and Jayne Eslinger combined on the edge of the 18-yard box before Eslinger sent her next effort towards DeLass. Petersen was able to redirect it for Loras' second goal to be headed in on the night.
The Spartans would add a goal of their own on a free kick at the 76 minute mark. Trish Resner scored her first of the season for the Spartans to make it 3-1.
Loras held a 14-3 shot advantage and Hannah Wilson made one save in goal for the Duhawks.
The Duhawks are now unbeaten in their last 24 regular season Iowa Conference games and during their run over the last three seasons as champions have outscored their opponents 82-9.
Loras will host a semifinal on October 31 in the Rock Bowl. Opponent and start time will be determined soon.
