Duhawks sweep third IIAC foe of 2012 with win over Buena Vista

The Loras College volleyball team is alone in third place in the Iowa Conference standings and have locked up a spot in the 2012 IIAC Tournament following Tuesday night's win over Buena Vista in the AWC. Loras improved to 4-0 at home with the victory and 4-2 in league play. 

  

Loras was in the driver's seat for the first two sets, winning by 11 points in each frame. Buena Vista committed seven errors in each of the first two sets compared to Loras' five total. The final set was a back-and-forth for much of the time, and wrapped up on a Kirsten Schultz solo block to finish 26-24.

 

Individually, Kara Grant led the offense with 10 kills on 20 attacks (and just two errors). Regan Riley added seven and Kenzie Goedken six. Libero Christa Winders led the defense with 11 digs. Shawn Rielly offered up 25 assists. The team hit .244 on the night and is now above .200 at .201 in IIAC matches – third in the league.

 

Loras' final Iowa Conference matchup is in Pella, Iowa against Central College on October 23, The Dutch currently sit at 2-3 in the standings and 8-14 overall. The team recently had a road trip to Texas cut short, and will play in Decorah against Luther on October 22.
