Late game heroics prove to be successful for the Duhawks once again

#4 Loras, 1

Wartburg, 0

With the history between these two programs, Saturday had the makings of another closely contested battle between the Knights and the Duhawks. Loras' game plan included applying massive amounts of pressure from the first whistle in hopes to keep the Knights off balance. While they were successful in this tactic, they were unable to capitalize on their scoring chances.

For the first 80 minutes, the Knights were perfect, including a huge save by Cade Shatzer on Alejandro Cosmopolis after the Duhawks were awarded a penalty kick following a handball inside the penalty area.

The two foes would trade momentum throughout the course of the match, but neither had much success until late in the tilt.

Mike Pizzello would make the most of his time in Saturday's game when in the 81st minute, he sent home a beautiful touch from juniors Erik Berkowitz and Kevin Cavers. For the second time this year, Loras won a game with less than 15 minutes to go. It was Pizzello's first goal as a Duhawk.

Loras moves to 5-0 in the Iowa Conference and 14-1-1 overall. They will host the Dominican Stars on Monday in what will certainly be an important non-conference match up for both schools.
