Loras, 2

#16 Wartburg, 1

The 16th-ranked Wartburg Knights came into the Rock Bowl on Saturday with the hopes of keeping their 11 game unbeaten streak alive against the Duhawks. Both teams knew that the 2012 regular season Iowa Conference title could be decided on the cold and dreary day, which just added to the importance of the match.

After a commanding start to the match, Wartburg surrendered the reigns to the Duhawks who were sure to make the most of their opportunities. In the 35th minute of play, senior Jayne Eslinger took advantage of the loose ball inside the penalty area following a corner kick and slotted it home for the Duhawks. Just seven minutes later, freshman Katie Truesdale added her ninth goal of the year, and what would prove to be her fifth game winner.

Wartburg took advantage of the halftime break to recollect and strategize their second half attack. In the 57th minute, Anna Aquino completed a give and go with Cathy Reiter to boot home a goal for the Knights. That would be all they could muster though, as Loras would hold them off for the 2-1 victory.

The win puts Loras in prime position to win the regular season Iowa Conference title sitting atop the table with 15 points.

Loras will travel to Indianola next Saturday to take on the Simpson Storm. Simpson will be battling to ensure their placement in the conference tournament. Kickoff is slated for 5:00 p.m.
