Duhawks 6th at Pre-Nationals event

Austin Steil was the first in Loras' lead group to reach the finish line on Saturday in Terre Haute, Indiana. The senior from Cedar Rapids (Xavier) was steps ahead of teammates Ty Wittman and Rob Howe in 28th place to lead the Duhawks to a sixth place finish. 


Steil was reached the finish line at Rose-Hulman in 26:12 to pace Loras' efforts. Wittman and Howe were finished in 26:16 and 26:17 to finish among the top 35 runners in the field of 376 runners.


Steve Loras was next for the Duhawks in 48th in 26:33.


Then Kyle Wagner, Chris Higgins, and Adam Varnas were 73rd, 79th, and 89th.


Jerry Olp, Loras' top runner in the first two races of 2012, was again held out of the lineup.


After the race, head coach Bob Schultz was proud of his team's efforts.


"Our guys raced really well and really smart," he said. "Not having Jerry certainly affects our team results, but I'm proud of our guys for stepping it up and still getting great results."


Next up for the Duhawks is their home event, the Dr. Tucker Invitational, on October 12.
