Loras 4th, Potts 2nd

Abby Potts was six strokes better than the field in the final round of the 2012 IIAC Women's Golf Championship in Pella, Iowa on Saturday – shooting a low round of 80 to climb back to second place on the leaderboard.

Potts' third round set her back, but she returned to the course on Saturday and delivered her best effort. While mother nature was wreaking havoc on the golf balls of all 40 players in the field, the Dubuque native was minimizing the damage and grinding her way to her final round 80.

The lefty improved her final spot each season in the IIAC tournament, moving from 25th as a freshman to 13th as a sophomore. Then she moved into the All-Iowa Conference portion of the leaderboard with an eighth place in 2011. It culminated with a second place finish in 2012 in Pella. The runner-up finish was the best by a Duhawk since Stephanie Schwartz (and the Duhawks) were second in the fall of 2007.

After Potts, sophomore Lauren Gonner was tied for 14th. She had three straight rounds in the 80s until Saturday's 102 (a little under half the field was in the triple digits in Saturday's conditions at the difficult Bos Landen). Then frosh Mara Simonson was 17th after a final round 96. Megan Gregg shot a final round 99 to finish tied for 21st. Kathryn Belanger also shot a 99 on Saturday to finish tied for 24th.

Loras' fourth place finish matched their best place under head coach Jeremy Hawkins.
