The Loras College women's golf team shot 406/362 over the weekend in Cedar Rapids to finish in sixth place at Mount Mercy University's Mustang Fall Classic. A windy Saturday had everyone's scores on the rise, and a calmer Sunday gave way to some significantly lower scores for the Duhawks, among others.

Freshman Mara Simonson posted Loras' best two-day and single round scores. Her Sunday round of 83 was Loras' best and tied for the low round of the tournament. By posting the team's only score in the 80s of the weekend, she moved up to 16th in the individual standings.

Simonson took 15 strokes off her score from round one to round two. Every Duhawk improved from the first round to the next. Abby Potts dropped nine shots and finished 28th. Lauren Gonner and Dana Matykiewicz each returned to double digits after battling the wind in round one.

Loras will now prepare for the 2012 Iowa Conference Championship over the next two weekends. This weekend, the team will start at Pheasant Ridge in Cedar Falls for rounds one and two. Central College and Pella, Iowa will host rounds three and four. Loras placed fifth a year ago.
