After the exciting weekend in Minnesota, the Loras College Duhawks returned home to take on the Buena Vista Beavers and the Dominican Stars over the weekend. The Beavers came in looking to start off Iowa Conference play in a similar fashion to their 2012 season, but Loras would have other plans.

The Duhawk defenders came in with a game plan to shut down Buena Vista's leading goal scorers, Kellyn Arnold (16G, 3A) and Tori Carson (12G, 7A). Needless to say, the defensive pressure of seniors Kinsey Campbell, Rachel Rieger, and junior Sarah Trump got the job done. The defensive trio created fits for the Beaver forwards all day long, preventing them from any quality scoring opportunity.

While the defense was doing their job, senior Hillary Wilson bent a beautiful free kick just underneath the crossbar in the third minute to put the Duhawks on top, and that's where they would stay for the remaining 87 minutes. Goals were added in the 25th minute by junior Lynn DeVriese, the 32nd minute by freshman Hayley Wegrzyn, and the 80th minute by junior Jackie Tumberger. With the win, the Duhawks kicked off Iowa Conference play on the right foot.

Sunday, the Dominican Stars arrived sporting a 4-4 record and came in with hopes to get up above .500. Such would not be the case however, as the Duhawks came out flying and were able to play with constant forward pressure, preventing the Stars from any significant offensive output. DeVriese added her second goal of the weekend in the 11th minute - only to be joined by freshman Katie Truesdale in the 15th. Coach Rothert gave his starters a break in the second half, opening up the rest of the roster to significant playing time. Junior Megan Kittleson took advantage of the opportunity following a corner kick from Hillary Wilson. Kittleson headed in the corner in the 52nd minute to give Loras the 3-0 lead.

With the wins on the weekend, Loras moves their form to 7-3 and is riding a five game winning streak, dating back to the ‘Hawk Cup' win over UW-Whitewater. The Duhawks will play host to the #1 Wheaton College Thunder on Tuesday night in the Rock Bowl, with kickoff scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
