Thu, Sep. 13, 2012 - [Women's Volleyball]

Loras, 3

Dubuque, 0

(25-18, 25-17, 25-16)

The Loras College volleyball team gave the home fans something to cheer about in the 2012 home opener with a convincing 3-0 sweep of their neighbor's from the University of Dubuque.

Regan Riley and Kara Grant each logged 12 kills on the night and Loras hit a season high .293 as the Duhawks controlled much of the match offensively. No Duhawk had more than three errors and setter Shawn Rielly was on target for the vast majority of the night – posting 31 assists. She also chipped in with 12 digs.

"We knew this was a big game...playing your crosstown rival is always exciting," proclaimed senior Regan Riley.

She also led the team with 13 digs and four aces to help keep the Spartans at a safe distance.

"It was the start of conference play and we knew that we had to play our best game in order to come out with a win," Riley said after the game. "I thought we did just that, and we are a hard team to beat when we are playing well."

Jillian Wulf was great at the net with a solo block and five block assists. She combined with Grant on four of those.

Riley went on to explain how the Duhawks are approaching the 2012 season.

"We are the true definition of a team. We don't have one player that can produce for us. We rely on all six players on the court as well as our bench to succeed and for our opponent, that is difficult to defend."

Klaudia Basierak led the Spartans with eight kills. Meggie Schmidt had 16 assists for the visitors.

The Duhawks are now on a one week break from matches ahead of another IIAC clash. The #18 Wartburg Knights will host the Duhawks on September 19 in Waverly, Iowa.
