Duhawks, DeVriese thump UWP in the Rock Bowl
Thu, Sep. 6, 2012 - [Women's Soccer]

Loras, 8

UWP, 1

Jayne Eslinger opened the scoring on Wednesday night in the Rock Bowl. Lynn DeVriese then followed with three straight goals in a 21 minute stretch to help push the Duhawks past the UW-Platteville Pioneers, 8-1.

Eslinger struck with her first goal of 2012 just 60 seconds into the game with a left-footed effort and DeVriese added her first of the season about six minutes later. Both efforts were assisted by Abby Maier.

DeVriese took the collective momentum gained against their tri-state neighbors, and, a pass from Eslinger, to make it 3-0 in the 23rd minute.

Then, in the 29th minute, Taryn Petersen and Rachel Rieger combined on the corner of the box to set up the junior's final goal of the night.

Just three minutes later, the scoreboard changed once again when Hillary Wilson drilled her long distance effort home.

With just seconds remaining in the first half, Loras starting goalkeeper Hannah Wilson handled the ball outside of the 18-yard box on a play at the top of the box. Pioneers' leading goal scorer Sarah Eck converted the free kick to break up the shutout and make the score 5-1 at the intermission.

Loras started the second half with new faces at every position and Jaclyn Tumberger, Shannon Stewart, and Kathryn Hermanas scored their first goals of 2012 in the first 32 minutes of the second half. Stewart and Hermanas' goals were the first of the Duhawk careers.

The Duhawks cruised to their 8-1 win and improved to 2-1.

They are headed to St. Louis this weekend to play Washington University and Principia on September 7 and 8.
