Loras, 3

St. Mary's, 1

The Loras College women's soccer team started their home portion of the 2012 season with a win and moved to 1-1 with a 3-1 triumph over the St. Mary's University on Sunday.

As the game neared the half hour mark - and less than ten minutes into her first shift in the Rock Bowl - Taryn Petersen struck first for the Duhawks. Petersen took a Kristina Everding pass and put the Duhawks in front at the 28:39 mark.

Katie Truesdale followed suit by netting her first Loras goal to double the lead 11 minutes later. Jaclyn Tumberger offered the assist on the game's second goal with a cross.

The lead would stay 2-0 at the intermission – but would be cut in half by the Cardinals midway through the second half. It would be St. Mary's first on the young season. Katie Holmes provided the goal in a one-on-one situation she tucked in to the far post.

Six minutes later, senior Hillary Wilson provided an insurance goal. She used a long Sarah Trump pass to reach the 18-yard box and promptly shot the ball past Miranda Halling.

Mary Kate Halm played the opening 45 minutes in goal for the Duhawks and Hannah Wilson the final 45 to preserve the win.

The Duhawks controlled much of the possession and owned a steady advantage in shots and took eight corner kicks to St. Mary's' zero.

Next up for the Duhawks is a Wednesday night tilt with tri-states neighbor UW-Platteville in the Rock Bowl. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM.
