Inaugural Big Man Camp in the rear view mirror

Earlier this month, Loras College football and offensive line coach Steve Helminiak ('91) hosted their inaugural Big Man Camp in the Rock Bowl.

"It was a great success," Helminiak said at the conclusion of the three day event.

"I say that because these lineman greatly improved throughout the three days."

The camp included participants largely from the states of Illinois and Iowa. Each practice session included an offensive session, a defensive session, a crossover period, and a competition segment. Different practices were also designated as either ‘Run Emphasis' or ‘Pass Emphasis'. The campers were also tested in a series of strength exercises during one session. Helminiak was assisted by members of the staff and players on the Duhawks' roster.

"This camp is all about improving and these guys improved their fundamentals and technique greatly throughout the three days," Helminiak said.

"I can't wait until next year's camp."
