Drake Relays RESULTS


The Loras College men's track and field team posted two wins at their annual Open on Saturday. Sam Ross was the winner in the Shot Put with a final effort of 47'-4.25". Michael Meersman was tops in the Javelin Throw with a 150'-7" effort. The win also came in his final toss and helped him to an impressive win of over 17 feet.


Runner-up performances came from Ryan Seymour in the 400, Jerry Olp in the 5000, Austin Steil in the Steeplechase, the 4x400 relay team of Jeff Schmidt, Kyle Ward, Zac Gassman, and Brett Epping, Mike Roth in the Long Jump, Ryan Piche in the discus, and Sean Campbell in the hammer.


Additionally, the Duhawks entered in three events at the Drake Relays.


Dan McDermott ran the 10K in an impressive 31:21.86 in the deep field full of runners from NCAA Division I and II competitors. He finished in 28thplace.


The 4x400 Meter Relay team of John Kawka, Mike Roth, Ryan Seymour, and Josh Goerdt ran a 3:23.09 and finished in 24thplace.


The 4x100 Meter Relay team of Seymour, Goerdt, Kyle Ward, and Zac Gassman had the best day, posting Loras' third fastest time in program history and 12thbest effort in NCAA Division III. The quartet ran a 41.98. They finished third in their heat, in 11thplace overall, a split second out of the finals in a field that included several scholarship schools.


The Duhawks are at Monmouth College this weekend for their final regular season contest. The 2012 Iowa Conference Championships are at the University of Dubuque on May 11-12.
