The Loras College women's track and field team posted a runner-up finish at the 2012 Iowa Conference championships on Saturday. The Duhawks earned All-Iowa Conference status in five total events, including one Iowa Conference champion.

Meggen Elsen's effort in the Weight Throw event provided Loras' individual title for the weekend. The senior from Nekoosa, Wisconsin threw her second-to-last attempt precisely 50 feet. That was roughly a foot and a half further than the runner-up and claimed 10 team points for the Duhawks.

Two Duhawks finished with runner-up team points. Katie Langmeier matched Simpson's Kinsey Bak at 5'-3" in the High Jump but took home second place points. Two inches behind her was Loras' Caitlin Groeper and Central's Caitlin Wilson at 5'-1" who tied for third, taking home 5.5 points each.

Emily Roth and Rachel Kolbeck each went up an even 10 feet in the Pole Vault. Roth claimed the second place team points and another All-IIAC spot for the Duhawks with Kolbeck fourth, sandwiching Wartburg's Allie Munday who claimed third place, also going up 10 feet.

Laura Wondra finished third in the Long Jump in the 16-jumper field. Wondra's best effort was her last, maxing out at 16'-8.5" and claiming another six points for the Duhawks.

Two relays also had top five finishes for the Duhawks.

Loras finished with 82.5 points on the weekend, 11 points ahead of third place Central. Both teams were well behind IIAC Champion Wartburg College.

The Duhawks will send potential national qualifiers to North Central College on March 2 and UW-Stevens Point on March 3 for a pair of ‘last chance' qualifiers.

The NCAA Division III Championships will be in Grinnell, Iowa this year beginning on March 9.
