Duhawks finish 3rd at IIAC Championships
Wed, Feb. 29, 2012 - [Men's Indoor Track & Field]

The Loras College men's track and field team was in Mount Vernon over the weekend to fight for an Iowa Conference indoor championship with the other eight league schools. When it was all said and done six events, including a pair of relays, had earned All-Iowa Conference honors.

Headlining the successful weekend were a pair of memorable finishes – one individual and one relay team.

Senior Sean Campbell bested the 25-man field in the Weight Throw to win the IIAC title in that event. Campbell's best effort was his second, traveling 56'-3.75". That toss was over 2.5 feet further than the runner-up effort.

It was a record-setting day for the Duhawks' 4 x 200 Meter Relay team of Ryan Seymour, Josh Goerdt, Mike Roth, and John Kawka. Their second place time of 1:31.20 was a half second better than their seed time and the best in the program's history.

The 4 x 400 Meter Relay team of Seymour, Goerdt, Roth, and Kawka followed with a third place performance – finished their four portions in a combined 3:26.70.

Goerdt and Roth added to their day with individual All-IIAC performances as well.

Goerdt finished second in the 400 Meter race in 50.10 seconds and Roth was third in the Long Jump at 22'-1.75".

The other top performance for the Duhawks on the day came from Jerry Olp in the 5K.

Olp finished with the bronze in 15:18.66.

Select Duhawks will have two chances to make the cut for the NCAA Division III Championships in Grinnell, Iowa – which begin on March 9, 2012. Loras will travel to North Central and UW-Stevens Point on March 2 and 3 ahead of the championships.
