Circle your calendars baseball fans! On April 14, 2012 the Loras College baseball team, in conjunction with Capri College and Coe College, will participate in a St. Baldrick's Foundation BaseBald event at Petrakis Park.
St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven non-profit 501 c-3 organization "committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives."
Following Game 2 of the doubleheader between the Duhawks and the Kohawks, members of the Loras College and Coe College baseball teams, their coaching staffs, and multiple members of the faculty and staff at Loras will take turns sitting in the chair while the good folks at Capri College (led by Erin Fiegen) turn on the clippers and shave the heads of the participants for a great cause!
The group of 20 original ‘shavees' began as a St. Patrick's Day challenge between a small group of friends who were trying to raise $17,000 on March 17 back in 2000. They raised over $100,000 that day and began what is now the world's largest volunteer-driven fundraising program for childhood cancer research – raising over $117 million since their inception! They note their five guiding principles as- Integrity, Efficiency, Transparency, Pioneering Spirit, and Sense of Fun.
Loras and Coe already have over 70 ‘shavees' registered, and are looking to raise at least $4,000.
To make a donation on behalf of a Duhawk, Kohawk, or one of the many ‘bonus shavees' not on the rosters you can go to www.stbaldricks.org or go directly to the event page HERE.
