The Loras College women's basketball team closed the 2011-12 regular season with a road loss to the Simpson College Storm on Saturday afternoon, 59-49. Loras took a five point lead into halftime, but the hosts busted out for 40 second half points.

 

Individually, a trio of players scored nine points for team high honors. Rachel Kerchefske scored all nine of hers in eight minutes of action in the first half. Katie Langmeier and Melissa Herrmann also added nine apiece. Langmeier added a team high eight rebounds.

 

Lindsey LaBadie scored seven points, pulled down eight rebounds, and also filled up the stat sheet with four assists, a block, and two steals.

 

The Duhawks made 11 of their 18 total field goals in the first half while holding the IIAC leaders to 19 points in the opening 20 minutes. Kerchefske made four consecutive buckets for the Duhawks in a three minute stretch of the first half, with a Lindsey LaBadie jumper mixed into the 11-3 run.

 

Four Storm players scored at least eight points in the second on their way to the 40-point final 20 minutes of the regular season. Brit Kent and Herrmann accounted for four of the Loras' seven second half baskets. Niki Rivera and Kelly Rogowski also knocked down 3-pointers in the second half.

 

The teams traded the lead seven times in the second half before Simpson pulled away over the final 2:45.

 

The Storm used that strong second half to secure their fifth straight IIAC title.

 

Loras slipped to fifth in the standings. They will be at the #4 seed Wartburg on Tuesday night at 7:00 PM. The game will air live on GameCentral at duhawks.com.
