USTFCCA Team Award Winners

The Loras College women's cross country team was recently recognized by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the success in the classroom.

Senior Genna Kinley and sophomore Mary Rector made the cut for the 2011 USTFCCCA Division III All-Academic Team. Kinley and Rector each carry a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or greater and were among the top 35 finishers at the 2011 NCAA Division III Central Region meet. Kinley finished 20that this fall's regional and Rector was 31st.

That duo headlines the team award given to the 2011 Duhawks.

With a team GPA of 3.53, Loras ranked among the best in the country in that category and cleared the 3.10 hurdle set by the USTFCCCA easily.

These national awards come a couple of months removed from the list of the six Duhawks named to the 2011 Iowa Conference All-Academic Team.

Five of the seven Duhawks who ran at the regional meet will return for the 2012 season next fall. Kinley and Katie Hemesath, along with Ashley Reimer, ran their final cross country races this season.

"I'm proud of the commitment our team has made to being leaders in the classroom," head coach Bob Schultz said this week.

"These awards are well-deserved and I'm proud of Mary, Genna, and our entire team."
