Wartburg 55, Loras 52 – OT

The Loras College Duhawks erased a five point deficit over the final 90 seconds of regulation in Saturday's road game against Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa but fell in overtime, 55-52.

The Duhawks built a five point halftime lead, 26-21 after six points apiece from Niki Rivera, Melissa Herrmann, and Katie Wheeler in the opening 20 minutes. Leslie Wilson scored nine first half points to pace the Knights in the first half.

Loras held a lead for the first six minutes of the second half before the hosts chipped away from the free throw line. Wilson helped the hosts back into the lead – which was as many as six points with four minutes to go.

The Duhawks then scored 10 points in the final four minutes, limiting the hosts to one field goal and two free throws over the same stretch to cap their comeback. Melissa Herrmann followed Lindsey LaBadie's 3-pointer to force the extra five minute session, tying the game at 46-46.

All nine of the Knights' overtime points came via the 3-point play. Melissa Herrmann fouled out on an ‘and-1' layup by Wilson. Morgan Rustad and Stephanie Reiter followed with long distance efforts for the home team. Loras would cut the lead down to three points twice in the final 90 seconds with baskets by Brit Kent and Rachel Kerchefske, but never overcame the 52-47 lead the Knights built in the first half of the overtime session.

Loras fell to 14-10, 9-6 in the Iowa Conference and are currently tied for fourth place. They will close the regular season on the road at IIAC leader Simpson College (18-5, 11-3) on Saturday.
