Loras wrestling team continues to find the positives in a tough season for the team as its record was pushed to 4-17 overall, and 2-3 in the Iowa Conference, following Saturdays IIAC Duals hosted by Central College.
Currently sitting at sixth in the Iowa Conference standings, Loras was only able to pick up one win this weekend defeating Buena Vista 32-18, and losing to Luther College, 26-12; Cornell College, 31-7; Central College, 27-6.

Loras started out strong with decision victories from senior Pat Pfantz, 3-2, and junior Matt Holmes, 5-2, in the 125 and 133 weight classes, respectively. Sophomore Joe Wood added a victory in the 149-weight class with a 6-2 decision, and senior Chris Gansen contributed with a 7-4 decision at the 157-weight class, but tech. fall by first-year Kyle Gibson set the tone for the match as Luther won in six of the ten weigh classes.
No. 6 Cornell 31, Loras 7
The Rams proved to be a tough opponent for the Duhawks as neither Pfantz nor Holmes could find a victory early in the dual to give Loras some early motivation. Wood notched the Duhawks first victory with a major decision 9-1 in the 149-weight class. Loras would add one more win on the 7-4 decision by first-year Joe Butler in the 174-weight class.
Central 27, Loras 6
Holmes bounced back against central to give the Duhawks one of their two wins with a 3-1 decision against Central's Kalen Greiner. Joe Wood continued his impressive day collecting his third victory on a 4-3 decision against Central's Josh Atwell.
Loras 32, Buena Vista 18
If there was any positive that the Duhawks could hang their pride on it was in their victory against the Beavers where they were victorious in seven of the ten weight-classes. Wood completed his sweep on the day taking down any opponent that came his way finishing with a 17-6 major decision in the 149-weight class. Holmes gained his third victory of the day by fall over at the 5:43 minute, and contributions in the form of victories from sophomore Drew Salzman by fall over, in the 141-weight class; senior Chris Gansen 7-0 decision in the 157-weight class; senior 165 pounder Mike Gossen in a 4-2 decision; Butler adding his second victory with a 10-0 major decision; and a victory by fall over by Josh Kirkland at the 184-weight class.
The Duhawks also found success from wrestlers in the exhibition series that took place in Pella, senior Chris Reed defeated his BV opponent in a 6-4 decision at the 141-weight class, first-year Brian Cullen was victorious by fall over nine seconds into his match, and junior Stephen Liske who defeated three opponents at the 174-weight class; one by decision of 6-0 and two by fall over at the 2:19 and 1:00 minute marks of his matches.
